| Mon Nov. 5 From here we start our way North. It is 300 miles of breath taking vistas to Barra de Navidad . Stay at the Hotel Delfin (3)355-5068, $30. and up or Hotel Sands (355-50-18) about $30 and up, breakfast included. Tues Nov. 6 Another long drive to Mazatlan. Take the Las Varas turnoff to avoid Tepic and have a nice coastal drive. Then go inland at San Blas, Hwy 54 and over to Hwy 15 to Mazatlan. Hwy 15 is slow going much of the time, but the best way. Hotel Sands (82-00-00) has a pool, restraunt/bar, parking, A/C and some rooms with views, about $40. ( If you want to slow it down a bit you can add an extra stop before Mazatlan, at San Blas, on the edge of the jungle. This is a town that feels like a village. Just make sure you have insect repellent for the nights. They have a Huichol cultural center here and you can get boat trips into the estuary with lots of exotic birds and they claim they have the world's longest wave sweeps for surfers. There are lots of places to stay just look at the room first to make sure it has no holes in the screens etc.) Wed Nov.7 Faster road to Guayamos but still along drive. Casa de Huespedes Martha (222-83-32) is a friendly place with 12 rooms and A/C, $15. Thur Nov. 8 Ending in Tuscon AZ. USA and crossing at Nogales or 10 miles west at truck crossing, Sasabe. |
