We
will leave here to meet up with our amigo, Armondo Montes in Toluca. He
will help us navigating around the largest city in the world, Mexico City,
to Puebla. Puebla is another
Colonial city. It is very large with beautiful buildings covered with hand
painted tiles that they are famous for. We will tour the birthplace of our
cars here in Puebla. Downtown around the zocolo is the most interesting
area. At this time of year you will find lots of Day of the Dead figures
and stacks of traditional sugar skulls for sell around the zocolo, but
with 1.2 million people there is much traffic so we will stay in the
nearby Cholula. This is a university town with maybe the most beautiful
churches in all Mexico. The largest pyramid ever built stands in the
center of town with tunnels and excavation sites you can visit. Villas
Arqueologicas (247-19-66) is a club-med with a French Restraunt, lush
garden and pool, $53. Suites
San Juan (247-02-28) has parking that is open to the public during the day
$18 -$21 with nice rooms with big beds. The Puebla area is the place where
you want to try mole Pueblano. Tue Oct. 30 We will tour the VW factory. The plans are still being worked out. We will then make our way to the Hotel Hacienda Cocoyoc, once a sugar plantation 25 miles from Cuernavaca. A true paridise. But watch out for "topes" on the way. Links to more info: |
