| Continuing on down 49 to Zacatecas, a beautiful Colonial town full of very interesting museums and sights: Mina El Eden is a small train ride and guided tour, the teleferico is a Swiss cable car which will carry you right over the center of town, Museo Rafael Coronel has over 2000 masks, Museo de la Toma de Zacatecas was the home of Pancho Villas and there are several art museums. One museum is devoted to Huichol art. Mid-range hotel, Hotel Condesa on Juarez near Hidalgo, starts at $25, but slightly higher nicer rooms are on the top floor with fine veiws (922-11-60) A hotel on the outskirts is Motel del Bosque (922-07-45) . It is uphill from the cable car terminal, about $35. Higher end spot Hotel Continental Plaza, built in an old covent in the center of town $110 (922-61-83). This is such a good place we will stay 2 nights. Try to sample the local "tuna", made from the cactus fruit, napales. Served over ice cream or as a Popsicle is good. | |||
